BUCS Indoor Team Announced

Updated: Feb 13

Swansea University Athletics & Cross Country Club have selected a strong team of 20 athletes to compete at one of the biggest university athletics competitions in the UK, the BUCS Indoor Athletics Championships. The event will take place between Friday 14th - Sunday 16th February as apart of BUCS Nationals where 8 different sports compete over 3 days in Sheffield. (You can find the full team selection at the bottom of the article.)

The team is being led by experienced track and field captain, Bradley Tenuta, who will also be competing in the 60m himself. Another experienced BUCS sprinter is also hoping to improve his previous performances in the 60m. Max Heavens, who recently finished 5th place in the Welsh Championships, has improved his pb dropping below sub 7 consistently this year and is hoping to lower it again this weekend.

Fresh from the Cross Country season, Alfred Yabsley, is looking to replicate his strong performance in Edinburgh in Sheffield over the 1500m this weekend.

First year sprinters Katie Robbins and Mitchell Lawrence have already shown themselves to be strong club members over the 400m and hope to continue to show strength on the big stage this weekend.

Former GB runner Emily Jenkinson has been training hard and has set her sights on the 800m final on Sunday after a comfortable win in the Non-Thomas Open Meeting earlier this month.

Over on the field, Ceirion Hopkins is looking to improve on his performance last year and jump into the final. Decathlete, Kieran Short, is specialising in the High Jump this weekend after showing good form in December with a jump of 1.80m just shy of his personal best.

In the Pole Vault, there will be a mini Swansea University battle between Ieuan Hosgood and Fynley Caudrey who have both jumped similar season's bests so far this year. After finishing 7th last year Fynley is hoping to finish a couple of places further up this year and hopefully the friendly rivalry between the pair will push them both to new heights.

All 20 athletes are showing good form and are hoping to come away with new personal bests and some great performances.

Good luck to the team! / pwb lwc i'r tim!
